I suppose you could, but that really depends on your TV's verse pattern. If the pattern is equal on all sides, there should be no problem. You will want to make sure the width of your TV verse pattern does not exceed the length of the mounting brackets otherwise you would not be able to utilize the bottom holes of the bracket.
can I use toggle bolts to attached the plate to the wall? If so, what size are needed?
I don't know if I would be confident to hang 100lbs. from drywall. 3/8" toggles would be the right choice. I would use at least 4.
Can I secure the bracket to the TV using only the top 2 screws, as the bottom holes are spaced too far apart?
I would not, the TV will not be stable and will result in too much torque straining the screws and threads . You need to mount it the way it was designed and intended. There are other mounts that will better suit your TV. Good Luck
