From my experience having mounted my 75", technically no. However, there are dozens of spacers provided that help securely screw the back of the TV to the brackets. Based on what I needed to make the bolts snug, I have a small tilt, no more than 5 degrees, likely less. You could use those if you wanted a small tilt.
Would this mount work for a 50" TV?
The wall bracket is 39.7 inches wide. COnsult with your TV's manual to determine if it will too wide. If you do not mind seeing the bracket hanging out of the side then you are good.
What is hanging down from the mounts and are they removed at installation?
They are short enough that your screen will probably cover them. they are to unlock the brackets if you ever want to replace or move the TV. they can be tucked away if they are too long for your display.
will this work on a LG 86 inch?
Check the specs of the TV. If it is less than 220lbs with a VESA mounting pattern of 200x200 to 900x600 then it will work. Most likely the answer is yes.
